  1. Select the Right Sandbag: Ensure you have a small leather sandbag designed for metalworking.
  2. Prepare Your Workspace: Set up your workspace with proper lighting and ventilation.
  3. Secure the Workpiece: Make sure the metal panel you want to shape or repair is securely clamped or held in place.
  4. Choose the Right Hammer or Mallet: Select a hammer or mallet appropriate for the job. The choice of hammer depends on the type of shaping or smoothing you need to do.
  5. Use the Sandbag as Support: Place the small leather sandbag on a solid surface, like an anvil or a sturdy workbench. The sandbag provides a soft, yet firm, surface that allows you to shape the metal without leaving marks or damaging the workpiece.
  6. Work the Metal: Gently and methodically work the metal against the sandbag. Use controlled and precise strikes with the hammer or mallet to shape or smooth the metal surface. The sandbag provides support and flexibility, allowing you to contour the metal as needed.
  7. Rotate and Adjust: As you work on different areas of the metal panel, rotate and adjust the panel as needed. This ensures even shaping and prevents overworking one area.
  8. Inspect and Refine: Periodically inspect your progress and make any necessary adjustments.
